Key Stage 2 Opening Block DLLs Now Available
Teachers handling Grades 4 to 6 can now access ready-to-use Opening Block Daily Lesson Logs (DLLs) for School Year 2026–2027. These instructional materials support the implementation of the Opening Block activities scheduled from June 8–11, 2026.
Under the Three-Term School Calendar, the Opening Block serves as an important transition period. During this phase, schools focus on learner well-being, classroom expectations, school policies, goal setting, and academic readiness.
Instead of immediately beginning regular lessons, teachers guide learners through activities that help them adjust to the new school year. As a result, learners develop confidence, responsibility, and a stronger sense of belonging within the classroom community.

What Is the Purpose of the Opening Block?

Grade 4 Opening Block DLL
The Grade 4 DLL focuses on helping learners adjust to the expectations of intermediate education. Activities include homeroom guidance sessions, values formation discussions, well-being checks, learning area orientations, and school policy awareness activities. Learners also participate in goal-setting exercises, parent communication tasks, and community-building projects.
In addition, Grade 4 learners develop responsibility, cooperation, and self-awareness as they begin the school year. These skills help them adapt to new expectations and learning experiences.
Grade 5 Opening Block DLL

Grade 6 Opening Block DLL
The Grade 6 DLL prepares learners for their final year in elementary school. Activities focus on self-awareness, academic responsibility, leadership, citizenship, and future readiness. Learners reflect on their strengths and challenges. They also set meaningful goals and connect their aspirations to future preparation for Junior High School.
Furthermore, Grade 6 learners develop decision-making skills, time management habits, and greater independence. As such, they become better prepared for the academic and personal responsibilities that await them in Grade 7.
