Opening Block DLLs for All Grade Levels Now Available for SY 2026–2027
Teachers across all grade levels can now access ready-made Opening Block Daily Lesson Logs (DLLs) for Grades 1–12. These instructional materials support the implementation of the Opening Block activities scheduled from June 8–11, 2026 under the Department of Education’s Three-Term School Calendar.
The Opening Block serves as the official transition period before the start of regular classroom instruction. During this time, schools focus on learner orientation, socio-emotional learning, classroom culture, academic readiness, and personal development. Rather than immediately introducing formal lessons, teachers guide learners through activities that help them adjust to the new school year.
As a result, learners begin School Year 2026–2027 with greater confidence, stronger relationships, and a clearer understanding of expectations. Furthermore, teachers can establish routines and positive learning environments that support success throughout the year.
What Is the Opening Block?
The Opening Block is a dedicated period designed to prepare learners for the academic year ahead. It provides opportunities for learners to develop essential skills, strengthen classroom relationships, and understand school expectations before regular instruction begins.
Throughout the Opening Block, learners engage in activities that help them:

What Is Included in the Opening Block DLLs?
The Opening Block DLLs provide five days of structured activities that align with the developmental needs of learners across different grade levels. Each Key Stage focuses on specific competencies and readiness skills appropriate to the age and maturity of learners.
Key Stage 1 (Grades 1–3)
For learners in Grades 1–3, the Opening Block emphasizes classroom adjustment, routine building, friendship development, and socio-emotional learning. Activities include getting-to-know-you exercises, classroom orientation, emotion identification, responsibility-building tasks, and introductory literacy and numeracy activities. These lessons help young learners feel safe, welcomed, and ready to participate in classroom learning.
Key Stage 2 (Grades 4–6)
For intermediate learners, the Opening Block focuses on learner well-being, values formation, school awareness, academic readiness, and goal setting. Learners participate in homeroom guidance activities, classroom expectation discussions, school policy orientations, leadership opportunities, and community-building projects. In addition, learners begin developing stronger organizational and planning skills that support independent learning.
Key Stage 3 (Grades 7–10)
Junior High School learners engage in activities that promote academic readiness, responsible decision-making, digital citizenship, study skills, and career awareness. Moreover, learners strengthen leadership, collaboration, and time management skills while exploring future goals and aspirations. These activities help learners navigate the increasing academic demands of secondary education.
Key Stage 4 (Grades 11–12)
For Senior High School learners, the Opening Block centers on identity formation, academic specialization, career planning, professionalism, and future readiness. Activities encourage learners to reflect on their strengths, evaluate career pathways, strengthen independent learning habits, and prepare for higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, or technical careers. Furthermore, Grade 12 learners engage in activities that promote graduation readiness and successful transition beyond basic education.
